This site is dedicated to the loving memory of
Dr. Siegmund Jacob Baum

On Tuesday August 13, 2002 Dr. Baum suffered a fatal heart attack in his sleep

My Eulogy at the Funeral held the next day at Mt. Lebanon Cemetary in Hyattsville, MD

When I last spoke to my father at around 1 PM yesterday , He said to me:

"ICHT SPEAL MEIN HOUSE GAIEN"

Or I want to go to my house.

I had him translate it to his native German for the benefit of his social worker who spoke German.

He said he was leaving to go to his house. He said he would recognize his house when he got to it.

I made sure that he remembered my phone number and to call me when he got there. He did remember it.

I believe that he got there but unfortunately there was no phone.

Throughout his career as a radio biological scientist, he made several achievements that have formed the basis for many of today's treatments for cancer and other diseases.

He wrote in his bio from who's who:

"As one approaches the senior years of one's professional life, one must begin to realize that scientific achievements which appeared remarkable in earlier years are probably only a small contribution towards the advancement of scientific knowledge. Of much greater importance, is to instill in young people the desire to continue the search for knowledge."

I wish us all to celebrate his life and not mourn his death.

I miss you dad...
